Roy, Utah -- A pleasant day on the lake with a 1996 Seadoo personal water craft soon turned ugly for Dealer Wayne Owen and his family. Luckily, he had AMSOIL lubricants in his engine. "While towing the machine behind a powerboat, it is advised by the manufacturer to block the incoming water from entering the engine cooling system." said Owen. "I did this by installing a clamp around the inlet water hose, then I forgot to remove it prior to the operation of the Seadoo."
Because of this, a 15 year old rider and another passenger rode for approximately four and a half miles on the lake when the Seadoo lost power. " When the craft was retrieved, it was smoking and appeared to be on the verge of erupting into flames," sad Owen. After getting the riders to safety, Owen investigated the damage. "Little did we know, but the exhaust outlet had been burnt off at he rear of the craft, and was allowing the water to enter the engine compartment area," said Owen. "But I discovered I could still turn the engine by hand as well as the electric starter. I pulled the spark plugs and forced the water from the cylinders. When I reinstalled them, I was able to start the motor!"
Upon returning home, Owen performed a compression test and found the compression to be exactly the same as a new one. He spent a total of #38 to return the water craft to its original condition.
" The dealership where it was purchased claims when this situation occurs, most of the engines are 'history,'" said Owen. "I am totally convinced that the only thing that saved this engine from complete destruction was the fact I was using AMSOIL Synthetic 2 Cycle Injector Oil."
